I will edit my review later, but want to let folks know how to get there using a public transportation. I think there is a reason not post it other than Japanese;therefore, be polite and mindful others in a town and on a bus. A bus is run by the town on Sat, Sun only that departs from Iiyama Station (#4) at 8:50 Arrive 9:20 at Kijimadaira Tourist Information Center for a transfer. Get on 9:25 bus to Maguse Onsen. You will be there by 9:40. 900 yen from Iiyama to the Tourist Information center (One way), no fare for after the transfer. Good Luck.

Great onsen in the mountains. They have an inside bath (where you also clean yourself), and an outside bath with a great view over the mountains. They also serve both lunch and dinner there for reasonable prices. Recommended visit

Definitely the highlight of my trip!Maguse Onsen is worth every yen; 9700 yen for 1 night (2 people) was cheap compared to the quality stay we get! The room was very authentic, perfectly styled as a traditional Japanese home with kimonos, kotatsu, large beds and nice floor. We also get free pass to the outdoor Onsen which was beyond imagination. Nothing's better than having an outdoor Onsen during the snowfall, with -6°C and an expensive view of the snowy mountain. Needless to say, come here if you want to experience a nice Japanese living standard.

The water is just right and the outside bath is very Serene and beautiful. There's a restaurant inside.

とてもいい露天風呂があります。If you can (it's a bit off-track) it's absolutely worth a visit. Entrance fee during week is 500 Yen. Didn't try the restaurant but it looks inviting, too!

One of the best onsens I've been to! ¥500 and you get a nice view of Nagano's lush mountains. Best to visit in fall or winter. The place is small and male and female have separate baths. Not sure if they accept people with tattoos so please check that first.

Maguse onsen is one of the best experiences I had in Japan so far. Beautiful view of the valley while soaking in a hot spring water is something you dont get to do everyday. This is an absolute must if you are in the area

It’s the best onsen I ever had. The view is just magnificent. You just need to be here to feel it. It’s the very unique experience around nagano

Go to the indoor onsen first for a shower and quick dip in the onsen. Then head out for the outdoors onsen. The views are stunning and so peaceful to soak up the hot water, mountains, snow and sun!

Best secret outdoor onsen! A little hard to get to but that’s good for it’s not too busy. Magnificent mountain view even in grey winter. After a warm refreshing session don’t forget to try a local soft cream made from 100% local milk for only 300 yen. Heavenly!

Outside dip is awesome, onsen water is good and the view is great spring, autumn or winter. The showers are inside though in a separate area. Need to dress to move between the two places.

Beautiful view , nice staff , good food. Please don’t go into the bath wearing swimming trunks or underwear as some other foreign visitors did!

Went there in a wintry evening so only managed to visit the indoor onsen. It was also my very first onsen experience in Japan. Had our dinner at the onsen diner after soaking in the onsen. The set meal and soba were great and we also had some oden after that. We were told by a local friend that the handmade soba should be ordered in advance as only a small quantity are being made daily.

Questions & Answers

As community bus does not go, we recommend car rental if you go variously, taxi in one place.

Although it is a day-trip hot spring, you can eat. You can also stay in another building.

It seems to read “Maguse”

YES!

It is not a mixed bath. There is a bathtub and a yuyu, but all of you think that the popularity is the opening feeling and the view of the outside hot spring.

There are facilities that are not far from us.
